local impact grants

Local Impact Grants help expand the reach of the Fraternity’s literacy work while also providing a way for Pi Phis to support reading programs and access to books for children close to home. As chapters and alumnae clubs fundraise for The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation, they can nominate an organization in their community to receive a Local Impact Grant from our Foundation. The program allows clubs and chapters to direct 25% of their fundraising contributions to a literacy-focused nonprofit, matched dollar-for-dollar by a grant from our Foundation.

To nominate a qualifying organization for a Local Impact Grant, chapters and alumnae clubs must use the appropriate Foundation giving form.

HOW TO CHOOSE AN ORGANIZATION FOR YOUR LOCAL IMPACT GRANT

It never hurts to ask your membership for recommendations. Survey chapter or club members and Advisors to find organizations your members already support

Search for local nonprofits aligned with your members’ interests—like children’s programs or adult literacy—then verify each organization’s legitimacy on GuideStar, which connects to the IRS database for nonprofit info.
For a broader search, use GuideStar’s ‘Advanced Search’ with relevant keywords (e.g., “literacy,” “youth”) and location.
Even if you already have a specific nonprofit in mind, you should view the organization on GuideStar to gather the information needed for Pi Beta Phi's Local Impact Grant program.

On GuideStar, you'll want to find the legal name of the organization, mailing address and their federal EIN number—along with a copy of their IRS nonprofit determination letter.
When making your gift to The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation, enter the organization’s information above, along with information on their literacy program in the Chapter or Alumnae Club Foundation Giving Form.
