How has Pi Phi influenced or shaped your approach to service
Joining Pi Beta Phi was a pivotal experience. It helped me develop confidence, resourcefulness and a sense of self-identity before I fully understood myself. This community of women also taught me how actions impact others and the importance of thinking before acting impulsively––a valuable lesson for any young adult.
What do you love most about giving back?
The most remarkable thing about giving back is that it helps other kids succeed and ultimately honors Ethan. I can't begin to explain how rewarding it feels to give scholarships and help other kids follow their dreams. It’s truly bittersweet.
What is something you wish you would have known sooner in life?
Give life your very best but take time and enjoy the journey. I went through most of my life feeling pressured to make immediate decisions. Now, I allow myself time to process a situation. It's okay to sit with the information and ask people, "Can you give me a day or two to think this through?" It's a very empowering action that changed my mindset and mental health.
How do you measure personal success?
I am the hardest on myself, so I take inventory at the end of each day. I ask myself: Have I given my best? Have I listened as a good friend should? Have I supported the people who make a difference in my life? Did I put my best foot forward? And most importantly, did I take a moment to care for myself? I can only care for others when I have treated myself kindly.
